Over the weekend, my husband planned to move the heifers that are spending the summer on the mountain. It's a long drive to get to the heifers and a long ride once you finally arrive. We debated whether he should take our oldest son with him that day. Our son was coming off a long week of baseball practices/games and swim lessons, plus he was fighting off a cold. I wasn't sure how much fun he'd have sitting in the pick-up for several hours and then being horseback for the entire day. There was no doubt it was going to be a long day.

In the end, he ended up going with my husband and having a marvelous time (of course). He hadn't ridden in that area before and thoroughly enjoyed himself! Honestly, there is nothing this kid loves more than going cowboying. He took his dog, his lunch, his water thermos and he was set for the day.

As they were coming back over the mountain they had a flat tire on the pick-up. And thirty minutes later a flat tire on the trailer. No big deal, just took a fair amount of time to change the tires. They didn't arrive home until 11pm. I didn't expect it would be quite that long of a day. The moment my son walked through the door he looked at me with a grin from ear to ear and said, "Surprise!" and handed me this bouquet of flowers.

I was completely taken by surprise. I thanked him, quickly put the flowers in water and hustled him off to the shower.

When my husband came in later, he saw the flowers and just shook his head. He told me the rest of the story: On the way over the mountain that morning, they spied these flowers in one of our fields and commented on them. As they were coming home, my son remembered where the flowers were and begged his Dad to stop so he could pick some for Mom. It was ten o'clock at night, but my husband pulled the pick-up over and helped him gather a handful of flowers. So sweet of my son to bring me flowers. So sweet of my husband to stop and help our son pick flowers in the dark.
