I’d like to introduce you a few of our horses. First, we have Heffner (yep, as in Hugh--don’t ask, I didn’t name him. But, I did take the liberty of spelling it slightly different than Hugh’s name). He is a big, solid brown horse. He is all heart; he’ll do anything you ask of him and you can trust him in any situation. If you asked my husband to name the best horse in his current string of horses, Heffner would top that list.

Next we have Tinker. He is one of very few Paint horses on our ranch. Tinker is another big-hearted, trust-worthy horse.

Tinker in action:

Although he is technically my husband’s horse, my daughter is convinced Tinker belongs to her.

In addition to the older, proven horses, we also have younger horses that we enjoy riding. They have tons of energy, which makes them fun to ride, but they are still learning the finer points of being a working cow horse. They need the experience that only comes from long days on the trail.

This is the young horse my husband is currently riding.

You may remember her from the other day when we were sorting steers. She is only 4 years old, so she still has a lot to learn, but we have high hopes for her. We raise almost all of our own horses, but we bought her from Leachman’s out of Montana. She loves to have her picture taken.

Unless she is just too tired to pose anymore.
