Hello everyone! Welcome to Beef Matters, I am Kim Brackett and I am excited to share with you a behind-the-scenes look at life on our ranch. My husband and I, along with our four children, live on a cattle ranch in the western U.S.

I had intended to post today about some of the seasonal activities that have been keeping us busy the past few weeks.

Instead I am showing you the surprise we woke up to yesterday morning.

This isn't the light, powdery stuff. Nope. This is heavy, wet snow that snapped off many tree limbs in our yard.

We don't normally see this much snow during the first week of October, so we were woefully unprepared and I still have a lot of fall clean up to do around my yard and driveway.

Yesterday afternoon my husband checked on the cattle to make sure they had feed and water. Fortunately, they were all fine, just a bit cold. Today the cowboys are moving the two-year old heifers to a different pasture, one that is at a lower elevation and has less snow.

If the weather forecasters are correct and the temperature reaches 60 degrees this week, all of this snow will melt quickly and leave us with a few inches of mud.

Here is a sneak peek of a few posts I have planned for this week:
